COSTECH climate research program
The overall goal of the climate research program is that contextually relevant knowledge on climate change adaptation and mitigation is in use by governmental and non-governmental stakeholder at various levels across Tanzanian society. Expected Outcomes: Tanzanian climate change research is strengthened. The capacity of Tanzanian HLIs and R&D institutions to conduct climate change research is increased Collaboration between research teams and other actors (government and non-governmental institutions, private sector, training institu The institutional capacity of COSTECH to undertake large competitive research calls is enhanced Expected Outputs: A broad range of Tanzanian interdisciplinary research Programmes on climate change are funded and completed (w/specific target of female project leaders) The participation of PhD and master students in climate change research Programmes is increased (w/specific target of female students) The participation of a broad specter of Tanzanian HLIs and R&Ds in climate research is increased Collaboration between research teams and a broad specter of other actors ensured The programme is implemented in line with the principles in the COSTECH grant manual Thematic priorities of the calls: Climate-adapted food production. Nature-based solutions to climate change adaptation and mitigation. Alert systems and climate services, including addressing loss and damage. Health challenges exacerbated by climate change Institutions and governance. New technologies and innovative funding instruments. The program is designed to promote female participation in research (Project leaders, other researchers and students). Project indicators include disaggregated data with specific targets for women (40% female project leaders and students funded). The project also includes other mechanisms to promote female participation. For instance, through the assessment criteria guiding the review of research projects
